Well New Orleans.... what a crazy amazing time. Learned a lot, both educational and social.
DAY ONE:
We touched down in the Big Easy early morning round 9 am and went on a tour of some of the destroyed areas from the water, which can not be shown in pictures they are so much worse in person, even today about 5 years later. After seeing some of the different areas and seeing the amazing efforts to rebuild different wards and neighborhoods, we checked into our hotel around 3.
Then starts the crazy first night.
4pm - Start Drinking at a local bar across the street, since most of the bars never close in New Orleans
6pm - 3 Drinks later with very little food im my system and fun stories at the bar. we head back to the hotel to get ready for dinner
7pm - Head to dinner and grab a beer along the way
7:16 - Get to Bourbon St and Grab a Hurricane
8pm - Go to dinner, quite drunk. My first cut off point. I drink a lot of water and eat food.
9pm - Go to bar where we push my friend upon stage with a bridal party to dance and sing.
930 - Go to Bourbon Cowboy Bar and Grab a large drink. leave shortly after and then things go fuzzy and the blank
From here on out i dont remember much of anything but here are some things that happened, whether or not they are in order i do not know.
- Smoke in a bar where there is no smoking and say "like i fucking care?!"
- Go up on a balcony with some grad students that we ran into and scream at people and lift up my shirt as i scream "show me your boobies"
- Run into a Bar/Club called Cat Meow where i was the only one with out a drink and you cant take drinks in, so someone had to hand off their drink to come in and find me, as i was dancing it up and having the time of my life.
- As people in my group see a street performer painted silver and acting like a robot and go up to take a picture with him, i run thru the crowd and makeout with him, getting silver paint on my face and lips. I have a picture with the silver paint all over my face to prove it.
- Have a BSU alumni tell my group that i was two blocks down and stumbling around looking like i was going to puke.
- Step on and break my friends shoe, while having my sunglasses fall off as she steps on them, left them in the middle of the street
- She barrows someone extra shoes which start to rub her feet
- Spend 15 mins in the bathroom talking to the attendant and then stumble out where the group decided that it was time i go home.
- Start to carry me home to notice the rest of the group is not with us. So we go back, and then no one else goes with us.
- My friend starts to carry me back as i high-five people and yell at people.
- Piss some guy off and have him threaten to kill us
- I tell my friend that she doesnt know where she is going, so she pushes me up against the building along Canal St and slap me and tell me to shut up as she holds me with one hand and looks at the map with the other.
- Run into the bridal party where the groom was just as bad as i was, so we became best friends and yelled at people and told the rest of the group that they dont know where they are going.
- Get back to the hotel and up to my room, my keycard doesnt work since it was next to my cell phone.
- Pass out next to my door, as one of the bridal girls runs down to get it fixed
- As she comes back an employee comes up as well, and takes pictures of me and being an ass as i am passed out and they are trying to keep me awake.
- 3 guys drag me as im passed out into the room and on the floor
- My friend tries to call my roomates, and no one answers
- She has no one else to call, being freaked out, concerned for me, and feet bleeding from the shoes, calls our Prof.
- Soon as she hangs up the guys are outside and she lays into them while still freaking out about the death threat and bleeding.
- Prof comes down, and talks to the guys while im passed out and tells them that we are having a meeting in the morning.
DAY TWO:
The next thing that i remember is waking up at 7am with nothing in my pockets and beads around my neck, which i got somewhere. Found my wallet with $23 missing from it, still not sure where it went. Couldnt find my phone at all. Slept in the chair till everyone else woke up, heard a bit of what happened, mainly about my friend freaking out and calling my Prof. and then we go down to dinner while i am still wasted from the night before, still in my same clothes. And the first person we see is my Prof. I stand in the back and look away. Random people from the hotel tell me that they are glad to see i made it thru the night.
We then walk the Garden District and it was quite amazing even when i was still drunk, go to the Riverwalk and grab lunch and then finally get back to the hotel take a nap, and then go down to the meeting where my Prof talks about the issue not naming names and that a taxi should have been called, which we have done in many other cities before, and somehow didnt think of it here. And that we need to be careful since it is a very different place down here than any of the other cities that we have been to.
I talk to my Prof after and tell him sorry, and thank him for taking care of the hotel employee situation. He says he knows that im sorry and that im usually the one taking care of the drunk people on the trip and that they owe me one.
We Get ready and head out for Night Two, eating at a local place called Mothers with great Po Boys. And then go back out to Bourbon St to meet up with some other Alumni and Grad students, grab a few drinks, tell stories of my last night, and then find a nice bar and chill on the balcony for the night with beads and drinks taking shots, while seeing lots of naked people. Then call it a night.
DAY THREE:
Start the conference which was a great conference. Saw a lot of great amazing talks as well as talked to many great people made some connections that i hope will help me down the road. Saw amazing booths and got every more info for learning after college.
Then dinner at a great seafood place in the French Qt and then meet up with the Alumni and Grads and then head off to Frenchmen St which is the local Jazz and Arts place. Get to see a great live band and then head back around one to the French Qt. and me and one of my roomates decide to grab coffee and baguettes at Cafe du Monde since it was only around midnight. Then my roommate and i went up to Bourbon St to see what was going on and run into a few other students on the trip. And hangout hit up some bars and hangout and grab some food and such. And head back.
DAY FOUR:
More Conference today and it ended up being pretty great, had a break between sessions where we caught some sun by the pool and were able to get rid of our burn lines. Then more amazing conferences many of the ones that i wanted to go to were packed to the point where it was standing room only outside the door.
Then off to the APA IN-OH dinner, where i was able to talk to some of the alumni and great people from the Ohio APA. got caught up with old profs and other great people that i havent seen in quite a while. Great food, some drinks, great people, all leads to a great time. Then it was over and we had to leave and go find a place to grab a drink and spend the rest of the night. We ran back over to our hotel and then to the local bar around the corner and grabbed some more food and sat around and chilled for a while.
Then some of us decided to go grab a few of the local drinks that New Orleans had to offer and ended up at Bourbon St again, there were people there even on a Monday night, and we talked and had fun and then just walked home after it was closing time.
DAY FIVE:
Last morning for the conference and caught the couple of sessions that i was really waiting for. And then we were able to spend the rest of the day making sure we were ready to leave and then took the street car down St Charles Ave out to Audubon Park and Tulane University and then back to the French Qt for our last lunch at a local restaurant, and then the rest of the group started to go back and I still wanted to go see St Louise Cemetery #1 where some of the famous history of Voodoo has been laid to rest. I literally ran up there, but they closed just mins before i got there. As i was about to walk away and leave one of the guys who works with a non-for profit and gives tours called out and we crawled up on the wall of the Cemetery and he started to point out and talk about all the history of the Cemetery. I got a 20 min personal tour of the place which was quite awesome. Then i realized what time it was, and had to RUN back 22 blocks in 15 mins to make sure that i made the bus on time. It was a crazy run back in dress shoes, causing my feet to create amazing big blisters on my feet that hurt the whole way home. But i made the bus.
Then back home - got into nearby airport almost at midnight then then finally back to campus and then home in bed asleep by 2am.
I have to say it was a crazy fun intense trip, where things were crazy and i learned a lot in life, and my major. And i wouldnt change a thing.
